Kicked into touch
Captive Minders were summoned to offer media protection to Stuart Tinner, the 24-year-old Job Centre worker who scooped £250,000 for hitting the crossbar in a kicking competition at halftime during the Saracens v Springboks match at Wembley. Stuart had promised to take all the Saracens cheerleaders out to a London nightclub but instead opted for going home to his parent’s house in Welwyn Garden City, only to wake up the next morning to find the world’s media camped out in the front garden.
Having given some gung-ho quotes like ‘this is the next best thing to losing my virginity’, Stephen was in danger of becoming a bit of a celebrity as the story quickly went round the world. Saracens felt obliged to call in the professionals to help return the Tinner household to a state of normality. This is the first known instance of Alex Rayner being heard to say ‘This is an ex-story, no more cameras please.’
